There are many places in the bible that is read out of context. That is usually the issue with those texts that people just stumble over. The one used over and over (and often projected with spittle by the God haters) is “judge not lest ye be judged”, and yet in the same sermon Christ tells us to “judge a tree by it’s fruit” so what’s up? I am sure if I could read Aramaic or Greek, there is a language barrier here, but the idea of each statement can be interpreted by its context. Judging in the first context is when you decide who is going to hell. Judging in the second context is simple discernment. So I can say “the unrepentant sinner is going to hell” without judging, God says that; not just me. I can also say “I believe this activity is a sin” by using my knowledge and discernment; again not judging anyone. If I say that YOU are going to hell because you did a certain thing? That is judgment, which only God will decide. That is the way I see it.
Christians are terrible with biblical context. I have seen so many biblical slogans, bumper stickers, posters, etc written to be handed out to the “unsaved,” when it was actually written to the “church”. The most famous one is the one where Christ stands at the door and knocks, says open the door and I will come in and sup with thee (paraphrased of course) Jesus came for supper, but do you hear his knock? Ive seen that used in Christian “propaganda” meant for the “unchurched”; yet that is in a letter Christ penned to the CHURCH (of Laodacia) found in Revelation.
The Anomie Patrol is in the middle of a series on the Christian Church, I am humbled at the endeavour . I do not believe that I am the one for this mission, yet it seems, that no one else wants to take it on. As the “scientific” secular world falls apart many young people are in search of meaning. The old “smells and bells” churches have seen an influx of interest as the modern “church” has been whoring after the world for decades trying to stay “relevant” and “seeker sensitive”. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God, we have nothing else. The three part series of Anomie Patrol seeks to shed some light on these paths. Episodes 15, 16 and 17 is our attempt to help lost individuals find the “old paths”
