Let Us Do Blasphemy

Let’s Do Blasphemy

Very provocative title eh? What I meant is, let’s talk about blasphemy, as a topic. Now of course by blasphemy, I’m talking about words said against God, or about God, that are less than praiseworthy. That’s the traditional interpretation. The very idea of such a concept brings many questions, like, if God is God, can he “feel” slighted? And if he does, is it up to some “person” to avenge Gods “slight?” If God is God, He would not take umbrage with mere words mumbled by his mere creations. Not that God condones taking His name in vain, nor does He wink at “loose lips” by any stretch of the imagination. It’s almost like God knows, that we know, that there are a lot of things going wrong within His creation, but blaming Him is foolishness. Mankind has been paddling their own canoe since almost the beginning. God knows that “scapegoating” Him will be detrimental to us; in the long run. Blasphemy isn’t just about cussing, it’s using God’s name in vain. However, in the end, that is between God and the individual; as it should be. It would be nice if all “religious” people let God deal with the slights to His “honour” but they don’t. Religious people get “offended” because it’s not really about their god, it’s about power (I’m not saying that it is not rude to speak in blasphemy against someones beliefs; it is). When you hear a controversy about “blasphemy,” it is usually a slight about a “religion,” and then there is a fight between individuals over the idea of the “power” of that “religion”.
There is an unfolding story that shows an example of this, and it shows a greater depth on this topic. The story took place in France awhile back, it involved a 16 year old girl. Her name is Mila, and her life is now in danger. This girl claims to be a lesbian, and an atheist, and she stood up to internet bullying by denigrating the new god of France. Mila is an internet presence, but one of modest numbers; the usual mix of teenage yap and makeup tutorial. Enter a male character of simpering testosterone making lewd, suggestive comments on her site. The young man identifies with the religion of peace. He is rebuffed harshly, and his “religion” is slighted very brutally. This rebuffed male then makes horrible threats, and vows to revenge his “god’s” honour. A brushfire was lit. The media storm raged. Why?
I mean, c’mon, a 16 year old girl (and her “followers”) on the interwebs gives some leering boy a verbal swirly? Why in God’s green earth would this light a national controversy!? Hmmmm, definitely worth thinking about, isn’t it? Now the idea of blasphemy laws for France are being circulated? In a country that has prided itself on atheism, “enlightenment”; a regular beacon of (supposed) high minded secularism? Hundreds of years ago the French had a secular revolution that bragged about how everything would be better once the last “royal” was strangled with the entrails of the last priest. How did “blasphemy” rear its head. Why and how, could this happen in France; the model of materialistic, scientific, and secular government?
I think what we can learn from this is; the presence of a vacuum is as deplorable in the spiritual world as it is in the material world. A truly “enlightened” secular world (where all is logic and reason) is not possible. The human experience cannot take place without “belief”, or faith. A truly materialistic world is, of course, touted by many individuals. There may be some people who can live out their days only acknowledging what they can see, hear, touch, taste, or smell; or at least that is their claim. But as a society, a culture, it is just not possible. One wonders about these people who claim to only believe in science, do they feel like that 24/7/365? Or when the nights are black, and the thunder rumbles, do they doubt their faith in materialism? Even the famous scientific atheist, Richard Dawkins, said he would forgo spending a night in a house that was claimed to be haunted. Of course he says that would be “primitive”, and a “sin to science”.
The whole debate whether “reason” can ever win out against the “primitive hind brain” is irrelevant to our present dilemma. The world will be run on religious terms, people gravitate there. The only question one has to ask themselves is; which religion will hold sway?
Now lest you only imagine the world’s traditional religions apply here, you need to understand what constitutes a religion. It’s about belief, is it not? Don’t you see the emergence of the new religion? Not much ceremony yet (chants, bells, robes, incense, etc) give it another hundred years; maybe a lot less. There is certainly a lot of pure faith, penance, sin, prophets, charlatans, saints, indulgences and “Armageddon like” prophesies. I’m talking about the church of Climastrology. I know the whole thing hides behind the “holy cloak of settled science”, but their “science” is full of holes and their “scientific” predictions are almost 100% wrong. Not that there isn’t some truth to the data, all good religions have a component of truth. I’m just saying that the whole thing smells more like a temple than a laboratory.
Then, of course, one has to look at some very weird occurrences of very
ancient type religions (long thought dead) poking their cobwebbed horned heads up from the tombs. Not that many years ago children were encouraged to attend Sunday school. They learned all the old bible stories about the Israelite’s struggles against the “foreign gods” of Egypt and Canaan. Then along came the “liberal/secular/ “enlightened” people denigrating such “backward” teaching. Nowadays you can be treated with all the symbolism of those same Canaanite “gods” (along with some lewd dancers) at a football halftime show.
I guess what I am saying is the board is being set, the game is about to start. It is inevitable that the people of the world are going to start choosing player pieces. Belief is the game, pure science and logic never really had a spot. Of course everybody wants Spock (or Data) in their corner; but it’s going to come down to believing. The “modern” world has made that plain. The time for vague contemplations about “belief” is nearing its end. Choosing, standing, fighting; that’s what’s almost at hand; on all levels. I’m not talking about pulling on the smock of the templar and swinging a sword here. I’m talking about just standing up for reality, stop letting some cult crazed leftist silence you with politically correct words. That whole nutty group are all reeling from a devotion to the religion of “equality.” That entire cult is all about faith and damnation. That particular creed has deep mythological roots, doctrines, superstitions, and of course; blasphemies galore.
So don’t let anyone convince you that the new dawn of man will be about logic, or reason. Mankind will always pick a god. Just pick the winner.
